SUWANEE - With food prices on the rise, perhaps there's not a better time to look to the local farmer's market for locally grown fare.
The Suwanee Farmers Market is in full swing since beginning May 3, and this year's market offers a variety of foods.
Ed Patton, owner of Dahlonega Vegetable Farm, has been a vendor at the Suwanee Farmers Market for three years.
He said since starting the market in early May, things have been going well.
"Suwanee is a real good market for our produce," said Patton.
He said the best thing about participating in the Suwanee Farmers Market is the people.
"People are good here," he said. "They're real polite people in this area. We get repeat customers every year, and we look forward to seeing them every year."
Carolyn Molyneux, of Duluth said she has been shopping at the Suwanee Farmers Market every Saturday since it opened earlier this month.
"I love it," said Molyneaux. "We come every week."
So far she has purchased items such as salad greens, cooking greens, radishes, green onions, roll zucchini bread and strawberries, and she said she even bought chicken.
"We like buying local, organic food as much as possible," she said. "It's a pleasant Saturday morning thing to do. We shop here first and if we can't find it here, then we go to the grocery store."
The Suwanee Farmers Market is from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday at Town Center Park and will run through Oct. 11, except Sept. 20.
